This Week’s Summit County Events

We have a fun week of festivities in the mountains, kicking off tonight with the Thanksgiving Eve Fundraiser at Bakers Brewery in Silverthorne. 

Want to do some exercise before your Thanksgiving feast? There is still time to sign up for the 5K Turkey Day Run in Frisco! It's a fun event for the whole family! 

Looking for a place to enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner? The Summit Rotary Club is hosting a free dinner at the Silverthorne Pavillion and Father Dyer United Methodist Church will host dinner at 4 pm. 

We are celebrating all things winter this weekend with Snowsation at Copper Mountain and Keystone's Winter Carnival

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 24TH

Thanksgiving Eve Fundraiser | Bakers Brewery, Silverthorne | 4 pm

Child Slave Trafficking is a Real Problem & Fast Growing Criminal Enterprise.

Bakers Brewery is teaming up with Summit County Local Sabrina and Local Musicians Steve 'Old Herman' Plummer, Leon Joseph Littlebird & The Pinheads to Help Fight Human Trafficking.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 25TH (HAPPY THANKSGIVING!)

Turkey Day 5k @ Frisco, 8 am

Join the 8th Annual Turkey Day 5k, presented by The Steadman Clinic and Steadman Philippon Research Institute.

The run will take place in Frisco on Thanksgiving Day. Get out and burn a few calories before celebrating with food, family and fun! This event is open to all ages and will take place on the Summit County Recreation Path and Town of Frisco side streets. All racers are invited to make a non-perishable food donation at the event which will benefit the Family & Intercultural Resource Center of Summit County. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Frisco Elementary’s S.T.E.M. program.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 26TH

2022 Summit Club Membership Launch | Outer Range Brewing, Frisco | 11 am

Magic Lights of Vail @ Vail, 5 pm

Magic of Lights Vail is a family-friendly, winter lighting walkthrough experience. Set in the Ford Park Lower Bench and Betty Ford Alpine Gardens area (adjacent to the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater), the approximately half-mile walking loop features an array of majestic lighting displays, made from half a million individual low-impact LED lights, creating a winter wonderland and underlining the natural beauty of the surrounding area.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 27TH

Snowsation @ Copper Mountain, 8.30 am

Celebrate the start of the 2021/22 winter season at Copper with the return of Snowsation! This annual event will feature a free set by DJ Benjë on Friday, Nov. 26 followed by fireworks and a snowcat parade. 

On Saturday, Nov. 27, Snowsation continues with free live performances from guitarist, Daniel Rodriguez and jam band, Leftover Salmon.

FREE Winter Carnival @ Keystone, 3 pm

Welcome Winter at Keystone's Carnival & Holiday Tree Lighting! Take the whole family to River Run Village at Keystone Resort, where the elves will be welcoming the best time of the year. Keystone’s Winter Carnival is a spectacle of jugglers and stilt walkers capped off with the lighting of the River Run holiday tree.

Movie Night: House of Gucci @ Breckenridge, 7 pm

Finish the week off with movie night for House of Gucci at Breck Film's Eclipse Theatre: A true story of how Patrizia Reggiani plotted to kill her husband Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of renowned fashion designer Guccio Gucci.

Mornings bite—frost on sage, a skim of ice on puddles—and afternoons thaw just enough for crisp, blue-sky walks on quiet trails. Elk wind down their rut in the meadows, moose browse willows along creeks, and jays and chickadees animate otherwise still forests. Towns shift into shoulder-season rhythms: patio chairs stacked, woodsmoke in the air, and snow guns testing at night as ski areas eye opening day. Mid-October in the Colorado mountains is that quicksilver hinge between fall and winter: golden aspen stands have mostly dropped their leaves, leaving white trunks glowing against evergreen hillsides; mornings bite with frost and the first sugar-dust snows flirt with the high peaks before melting back by afternoon. Elk bugles fade as the rut winds down, cotton-candy sunsets arrive earlier each day, and trails shift to mixed conditions—dry and crunchy in sun, slick with shaded ice in the trees. Towns ease into shoulder-season calm, but you can feel the tempo rising again: nights are cold enough for early snowmaking tests, fireplaces spark back to life, and every clear day feels like a bonus lap before winter truly clicks in.

As leaf season winds down in Summit County, hillsides that blazed gold just weeks ago soften to copper and straw, with aspen leaves drifting like confetti onto quiet trails and the shoreline of Dillon Reservoir. Cooler nights sharpen the air, the elk’s bugle carries a little farther, and the first sugar-dusting of snow teases the high peaks above Breckenridge, Keystone, and Copper. It’s a peaceful shoulder-season pause—fewer crowds, cozy fireplaces, and one last chance for crisp morning hikes, bike rides through leaf-strewn paths, or a reflective drive over Hoosier or Loveland Pass—before winter flips the switch and the mountains trade their amber glow for glistening white.
